Obituary for Ada Kirby Sammons Ada Kirby Sammons, 92, passed away on Saturday, January 5, 2019 at Mountain View Nursing Home after several months of declining health. She was the widow of John Earl Sammons to whom she was married for 55 years before his death in June 2001. She was the daughter of the late John Henry Kirby and Dovie Gardner Kirby.

She is survived by her daughter, Becky Snelgrove (Ron), her son, Jimmy Sammons; grandchildren, John Paul Snelgrove, Randall Sammons and Jennifer Moates; two great nephews that she considered grandsons, Robert Brown and Frank Brown; seven great grandchildren; her brother, John Henry “JH” Kirby (Norma) and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephew; along with a special friend of the family, Rick Babb of Greeneville, TN, whom she considered to be her adopted son. Along with her parents and husband, she was also predeceased by her sisters, Nellie Hawkins (RL), Edith Turney (Earl) and Hazel Kirby; an infant brother, and an infant grandson, Ronald Lee Snelgrove. Ada was a homemaker for many years and worked for Butte Knit and Raycord as a seamstress.

She was a member of Ben Avon UMC, the Jim Whitt Sunday School class, the UMW, past president of the UMW, a Sunday School teacher and VBS teacher, and former Treasurer of the church. “Mama” was an excellent southern cook, baker, and seamstress who shared her many talents with family and friends through the years. She loved to crochet and work crossword puzzles, and most importantly, read her bible.

Graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, January 8, 2019 in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307, conducted by The Rev. Jones Brewer and The Rev. Randy Lewis.

Visitation will follow at the graveside. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mobile Meals Service, P.O. Box 461, Spartanburg, SC 29304 or to Ben Avon United Methodist Church, 2360 Avondale Drive, Spartaburg, SC 29302.
