ADEL THOMAS WILKES Augusta, GA – Entered into rest Wednesday, January 30, 2019, Adel Thomas Wilkes, loving wife of the late David B. Wilkes, Jr Mrs. Wilkes was a longtime resident of Augusta. She retired as a bookkeeper at the Medical College of Georgia.
She was a devoted member of Woodlawn United Methodist Church since 1951 and she was also a member of Amaranth. Mrs. Wilkes was an avid supporter of the Augusta Green Jackets baseball team. She enjoyed attending games and was a longtime Green Jackets Club member.
Mrs. Wilkes loved cooking for family. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother. Family members include two daughters: Kay W. Simon and husband Joey of Grovetown and Mary W. Young and husband Joe of Evans; two sons: David Baum Wilkes, III and wife Jean of Augusta and the late Rev.
Canon Larry Glynn Wilkes, Sr. and wife Debbie; sister: Kadel Williams; brother: Rev. Paul Thomas; eight grandchildren, Rebekah Wilkes Luty (Mark), Laura Wilkes Smiley (Duncan), Angela Kay Scarborough, Larry Glynn Wilkes, Jr., Jeremy Adam Mendenhall, Stewart Allan Mendenhall (Karen), Kerryl Spivey (Joey), and several great and great-great grandchildren. In addition to her husband and son, Mrs. Wilkes was preceded in death by a sister: Ora Beacham; grandson: Hunter Lee Scarborough and a great granddaughter: Kori Jean Matthai.
A funeral service will be Sunday, February 3, 2019, at 10:00 A.M. in the chapel of Thomas Poteet and Son with Chaplain Wade Sosebee officiating. Burial will follow at Northview Cemetery in Dublin, GA. at 3:00 P.M. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude at www.
