Obituary for Adolfo “Dofie” Munoz Pena Adolfo M. Peña (“Dofie”), 78, of Peoria, Arizona, passed away Monday (January 7, 2019) after a hard-fought battle with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. He was comforted and surrounded by his loving family. Services will be held on Friday, January 18.

Rosary service will be at 9:30am at Meldrum Mortuary, 52 N MacDonald, Mesa, AZ. Mass will be at 11:00am at Christ the King Catholic Church, 1551 E Dana Ave, Mesa, AZ. Interment will be at 1:00pm at Mesa Cemetery, 1212 N Center St, Mesa, AZ.

Dofie was born May 15, 1940, in Mesa, a son of Manuel and Eloisa Peña. He graduated Mesa High School in 1958. He started in construction at the age of 18, and volunteered for a 2-year tour in the US Army Reserve where he was part of a Field Artillery Team.

Once back in Arizona he continued his construction work, joined the Carpenters Union and took classes at Phoenix College. He worked his way up from apprentice to Project Superintendent. Throughout his long career he was responsible for overseeing the building of hundreds of commercial properties across the State of Arizona.

His two most memorable projects were being a part of building Sun Devil Stadium and the basketball arena, both located at Arizona State University. Prior to his retirement he worked for the Special Operations Project Division for the City of Phoenix. He was always an extremely detail-oriented person and took great pride in his work.

In his free time he loved maintaining his house and yard. He always created special projects at home as well. Some of his works included a redwood deck to brick courtyards to making custom raised flower beds and concrete work.

He was the epitome of a family man, he was loyal and dedicated to his loving wife and her blind sister Patsy who they took care of part-time after they both retired. He was also very caring and compassionate to his adopted dogs Shags and Pepe. Additionally, Dofie was full of history and would love to tell stories of growing up in Mesa.

His other many stories included his work projects and travels from his youth to travels with his beloved wife Josie. He loved his trucks, cowboy boots, his custom belt and buckle. His favorite artists were Johnny Cash and George Jones.

It was a given that he also loved Mariachi music and he was a movie aficionado who knew every John Wayne and Clint Eastwood western/war movie ever made. He was also an avid reader, and enjoyed books and on his tablet. His favorite readings were espionage and military-science chronicles.

Dofie is survived by his wife of fifty-three years Josephine “Josie” Peña, a son, Michael Peña of Glendale, his wife, Courtney and their dog Moose, a daughter, Teri Garcia of Ahwatukee, her husband Carlos and their children, Adam and Danyella, a son, Tony Peña of Mesa, and his wife Trish. His siblings include his brother, Manuel Peña and his wife Helen, a sister, Angie Urness, a sister, Yolanda Solis and her husband Ed, a Brother, Ramon Peña and his wife Donna, a sister, Sally Peña, and a sister, Rosanna Christensen and her husband Jay, and many nieces and nephews.
