Agnes Ruth (DeRaleau) Wiechec, 82 of Massachusetts Avenue passed away Friday. She was born in West Springfield on January 8th, 1937 to the late George E. and Helen (Roy) Wiechec and she lived here her entire life. She was a graduate of Cathedral High School.

Agnes worked for years as a School Crossing Guard for the Town of West Springfield and served as a Foster parent with her late husband John for over 40 years. She was a faithful volunteer and a friend to all who knew her. She was a lifelong communicant of St. Thomas Church.

Agnes was the loving widow of John P. Wiechec, Sr. who passed away in 2010, beloved mother of Joseph A. Wiechec and his wife Vickie of Kathleen, GA, John P. Wiechec, Jr. and his wife Eileen of Westfield, Andrew M. Wiechec of Port St. Lucie, FL, Alan B. Wiechec and his wife Therese of Ringgold, GA, Matthew E. Wiechec of Chicopee, and Josephine A. Bealieu of Chicopee, cherished grandmother of 16 and great grandmother of 3, and she was the caring sister of Richard DeRaleau and his wife Phyllis of York, PA. Ed DeRaleau and his wife Ilydia of Springfield, Claire Tatro of Springfield, Helen Ensign of NH, and the late Bob DeRaleau. She also leaves several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be Thursday 4-6 pm at the TOOMEY-O’BRIEN FUNERAL HOME, 1043 Westfield Street, West Spfld. The funeral will be Friday 8 am at the funeral home followed by a Funeral Mass at 9 am at St. Thomas the Apostle Church. The Committal Service will be at 10 am at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam.
