Alice M. Cleppe, our angel Wife, Mother, Nana, Great Nana, Sister, and Friend to many departed this valley of tears and has returned to that homeland where there is no death and eternal joy endures. Alice was born on May 21, 1931 in South Bend, Indiana to Walter and Mary Cwidak. She formerly resided in Granger, IN.
She is predeceased by her parents; two brothers, Frank and Leonard, and their spouses; as well as by her sister, Delphine Plencner, and her spouse. On May 16, 1953, she was united in marriage to Robert R. Cleppe. Her husband of 65 years survives together with their three children, David (Donna) Cleppe, DDS, Elysse (Mike) Pajakowski, both of Granger, IN, and Allison (Gene) Harding of Gallatin, TN.
Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Evan Cleppe, Craig and Grace Pajakowski, Lauren Pajokowski (Derek) Mersich, Julian, Colin, and Reid Harding; and four great-grandchildren, Harper, Owen, Grant, and Jack Mersich. Also surviving is her sister, Mary Jane (Tom) Manuszak of Buffalo Junction, Virginia; and a number of nieces and nephews. Prior to her marriage and for a short time thereafter, Alice was employed at a local bank, but with the birth of her first child, she chose the career of wife, mother, and homemaker, and excelled in all categories.
In May of 2013, Alice was honored for her twenty-five years of volunteer service to our local Hospice. Most of the service was at the Hospice House on Sunnybrook Court since its opening in 1996. Through a program with the Christ Child Society, she volunteered as a mentor at St. Adalbert School for eight years and was able to see her first class of little ones graduate to high school.
Regretfully, for health reason, she had to leave, but the children will always remember “Miss Alice”. A Memorial Service and Mass will be held at noon on Saturday, November 3, 2018 at St. Joseph Chapel on the campus of Holy Cross College. Friends may visit with the family from 11:00 AM until the time of service.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Palmer Funeral Home River Park Chapel. Memorial contributions in Alice’s memory may be made to Hospice Foundation Supporting Center for Hospice Care at 501 Comfort Place, Mishawaka, IN 46545. The family wishes to express its sincere appreciation to Edith Grandison, RN and her staff at Wedgewood Pines, who lovingly cared for Alice during her final time on this earth.
A special thanks, also, to the hospice staff and nurses for their care and support. Alice’s compassion, her infectious humor and always a smile – Her cheerful energy, her wit, her creativity, kindness and modesty – Her generosity of spirit and devotion to her family, will live on. God-speed dear lady.
You unknowingly made your mark while on this earth and your reward awaits you.
