A legacy is etched into the minds of others and the stories they share about you”. It is with great sadness that the family of Allean S. Martin, widow of Harry Martin, announces her elevation after a brief illness on March 8, 2019, at the age of 86.
Born Allean Smith March 6, 1933, Greenwood, South Carolina to the parentage of Walter and Mamie Dean Smith. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was a member of Springfield Baptist Church.
Allean, or “Sweet Lean,” as she was affectionately called by her family and friends, will be lovingly remembered and forever cherished by her five children: Harry (Julia) Martin Jr., Sara Anderson, Charlene Floyd, Ricky Martin all of Greenwood, South Carolina and Reverend Kimberly Martin of the home. She is survived by 15 grandchildren that she adored and favored equally; 3 raised in the home Felicia Martin, Whitney Freeman, and Kenneth Martin; 45 great-grand children; 12 great great grandchildren, a brother in law Charlie Settles, and a host of other family, friends, and engrafted children too numerous to name, to mourn her transition. She will be greatly missed, but her teachings will continue to manifest in the lives she has touched.
We honor you mother for your life, your lessons, your legacy, and for preparing us for this moment, by “living your absence”. According to my earnest expectation and my hope, that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but that with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ shall be magnified in my body, whether it be by life, or by death. For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.
But if I live in the flesh, this is the fruit of my labour: yet what I shall choose I wot not. For I am in a strait betwixt two, having a desire to depart, and to be with Christ; which is far better: Nevertheless to abide in the flesh is more needful for you. And having this confidence, I know that I shall abide and continue with you all for your furtherance and joy of faith; That your rejoicing may be more abundant in Jesus Christ for me by my coming to you again.
Philippians 1:20-26. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 13, 2019 at Springfield Baptist Church with Reverend Robert Knox, Pastor, Bishop Reginald Steele, Officiating and Reverend John Duncan, Presiding. Assisting will be Reverend Christopher Thomas, Reverend James Fisher, Bishop Oliver McCray, Reverend Doris Gray, Minister Jitwan Floyd and Reverend Barry Caldwell.
The body will be placed in the church at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in the Evening Star Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the home, 102 Richard Street on Tuesday evening. Parks Funeral Home is assisting the Martin Family.
