Alvin R. Staten, 49, of Independence, died at 11:25 AM Friday, September 21, 2018, at the Great River Medical Center in West Burlington. Born May 3, 1969, Osceola, AR and raised in Luxora, AR, he was the son of Albert N. Staten and Nancy L. Diggs. Alvin worked as a Correction Officer for 10 years and at MHI for 2 years.

He was a 1988 graduate of River Crest High School in Luxora, Arkansas and a 2000 graduate of Southeastern Community College in West Burlington, Iowa where he obtained a CNA degree. Alvin accepted Christ at an early age at New Salem Baptist church. He had a great love for all people.

He cherished times spent with his children, loved ones, and friends. Alvin enjoyed lifting weights, playing basketball, and shopping. He loved “hitting up” yard sales where he had a knack for finding good deals.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his father, Albert of Arkansas; three sons, Donshae Staten of Burlington, Ethan Staten of North Liberty, and Kindric Hurt of Burlington; daughter, Niani Lewis of Bloomington, IL; three step-daughters, Ashley Wilson, Destiny Harris, and Tyesha Wilson all of Burlington; grandchild Nasheem O. Styles and a second grandchild expected this December 2018; brother, Robert Adam of Luxora, AR; and sister, Gwendolyn (Aniefiok) Jacob of Jonesboro, Arkansas. He is preceded in death by his mother, Nancy L. Diggs; grandparents, James and Pecolia Diggs. The funeral service for Mr. Staten will be 11:00 AM Saturday, September 29, 2018, at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church with Supt.

Mr. Fred Starling officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A time of food and fellowship will be held at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church following the burial.

Memorials have been established for his children’s continued education.
