Amanda L. Strickland Williams, passed away unexpectedly on May 1st, 2018 in Asheville, NC. The cause of her death was sudden cardiac arrest. She was only 54.
Mandy was born February 28, 1964 in Fayetteville, NC and grew up in several cities in North Carolina and Virginia. She called Kinston NC “going home,” as it was where she spent many happy summers as a child with her sister at their Mammy’s House. The town of Tarboro NC, where her Granny lived, was also a place that held happy childhood memories, as it always included fun times with many aunts, uncles and cousins from the Strickland side of her family.
Mandy was the youngest of two daughters born to Jean Rich Strickland of Kinston, NC and James Ray Strickland, of Woodstock, VA. Though Mandy had temporarily moved to Asheville, her home for over 20 years was Woodstock, VA, where she lived with her three sons, James Williams, 17, Samuel Williams ,15, and Matthew Williams, 14. Mandy was recruited by Eastman Kodak Corporation just as she was obtaining her electronics degree and worked for over 13 years as a copy repair technician.
Mandy was given many awards over her years with the company, and many clients specifically requested her. In 2000, Mandy began her new career as a mother. In the space of just 4 years, she had three treasured sons to whom she devoted herself.
Everyone who knew Mandy knew her love and commitment to being their mother. Her sons were her heart and gave her joy. Mandy has passed on many of her special traits to her sons: her ability to work hard to her son James, her unique sense of humor and laugh to her son Samuel, and her contemplative nature and thoughtfulness to her son Matthew.
Mandy had a gift for good cooking and baking. She enjoyed preparing meals of all kinds for her family- some were simple, some were gourmet, but all were delicious. Her treasured recipe box will be shared lovingly by her sons for many years to come.
Mandy was preceded in death by her mother Jean, who passed away in 2012 at the age of 72. She is survived by her father Ray of Woodstock VA, her sons James, Samuel and Matthew of Woodstock VA, her niece Kacie Daughety of Brooklyn NY, and by her big sister Tammie Daughety of Grifton NC, who will be forever proud to call Mandy her baby sister. Mandy lives on in the hearts of all she touched.
