Obituary for Anastasios Athanasopoulos Anastasios ”Steve” Athanasopoulos, 96 of Bay Terrace, passed away on Sunday, January 6, 2019, at home surrounded by his loving family. Born Saturday, January 7, 1922 in Brooklyn, New York, he was the son of the late Christos Athanasopoulos and the late Katherine Kalimeris Athanasopoulos. A US Navy Veteran of World War II Anastasios, started his own trucking business after the war, and built it up over many years, sharing the business later with his son Chris.

Anastasios was a hard working man and worked well in to his late 70’s. , after retiring he enjoyed the simple things in life, watching television, routing for the New York Mets, cooking on occasion, but most of all he cherished his time with family and friends, especially his grand daughters Caitlin and Mary. He was a devout member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church.

Beloved husband of the late Mary Athanasopoulos (2005). Loving father of Chris Athanasopoulos. Dear father in law of Catherine Athanasopoulos.

Brother of the late John Athanasopoulos and Zoe Evangelatos. Cherished grandfather of Caitlin and Mary Athanasopoulos. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church located at 1641 Richmond Ave Staten Island, New York 10314.

Interment will follow in Cypress Hills Cemetery, Brooklyn, NY. The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM and 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM on Wednesday, January 9, 2019, at John Vincent Scalia Home for Funerals, Inc., 28 Eltingville Blvd, Staten Island, New York.
