Angela Smith Thomas, age 52, of Old Fort, NC, passed away Tuesday, January 1, 2019 at Memorial Campus of Mission Hospital after an extended illness. She made her journey home to Heaven. Angela was born July 7, 1966 in Davidson County, NC to the late Robert Newton Smith and Savannah Grindstaff Smith.

She was a mother, grandmother and nanny for numerous nieces and nephews who always loved “Aunt Bea”. We will forever love and cherish her memory and smiling face. She is at home in Heaven at last but will remain in our hearts forever!

Left behind to cherish Angela’s memory are her beloved husband of 35 years, Christopher Thomas of Old Fort; one son, Scott Thomas of Old Fort; two grandsons, Dylan and Jackson Thomas of Hickory, NC; two sisters, Shirley Vaughan and husband, Danny of Bluefield, WV and Roberta Hartwell of Marion, NC; two brothers, Robert “Bobby” Smith and wife, Sandra of Morganton, NC and Ricky Smith and wife, Susan of Marion; a cousin, Janie Huntley of Burnsville, NC; numerous nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Annette Sigmon Byrd, who was a life long friend since childhood from Georgia. Special recognition to Margaret Tabor, Angela’s mother-in-law, for many years of dedication and special care to Angela and her family. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, January 4, 2019 at the First Baptist Church of Old Fort, with a few words spoken by Angela’s son, Scott Thomas, and a close family friend, Chase Laney, at 6:00 p.m. A funeral service to celebrate Angela’s life will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 5, 2019 at the church with Rev.
