Ann McOmber Stevenson passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on October 29th to rejoin her beloved husband, Milton, who preceded her in death in 2009. Ann was born August 25, 1930, the daughter of Myron Herman McOmber, DDS, and Amelia Francis Waring McOmber. She grew up in Gouverneur, NY, and graduated from Syracuse University’s School of Nursing in 1952.

She married Milton in 1953 and together they raised eight children while founding and growing Anoplate Corporation into one of the more prominent job shop metal finishers in the US. They travelled extensively to all corners of the earth but their most treasured destination was their cottage on Charleston Lake in Canada. Nearest and dearest to Ann and Milt’s heart was their relationship with Syracuse University both having served on the Board of Trustees, being named honorary “Letter Winners of Distinction”, and providing funding for what is today the Syracuse Biomaterials Institute.

She and Milton were passionate SU Orange fans attending football, basketball and lacrosse games for decades. They travelled to numerous away games and were known by many of the players and coaches. The Educational Center for Student Athlete Development at SU bears their name.

Besides Syracuse University Ann enjoyed supporting Syracuse Stage, the Syracuse Symphony, the Museum of Science and Technology (MOST), the Rosamond Gifford Zoo, Komen Race for the Cure (Ann was a breast cancer survivor herself), and just about anything that made Syracuse a better community for all to live in. Ann is thrilled that she and Milt will be together to cheer on Syracuse football in their upcoming bowl appearance. Ann is survived by her eight children: Emmy, Milton (Mary), Laurie O’Brien (Brian), John (Pam Grzasko), Heather, James (Lisa), Scott, Eric (Lori), in addition to 16 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren (and 2 on the way).

A private service celebrating Ann’s life will be held by the family. Contributions in Ann’s name may be made to the Jordan United Methodist Church or the charity of your choice.
