OBITUARY Ann W. Stolley September 15, 1942 – November 11, 2018 Ann Stuart Wisdom Stolley died at home, surrounded by her family, on Sunday, November 11, 2018 following a brief illness. She was born September 15, 1942 to the late Norton Labatt Wisdom and Mary Louise (Peggy) McGehee Wisdom. She is survived by her beloved family, her husband, Edward Hugo Stolley and her children, Elizabeth McGehee Stolley Lokey (Russell) and Matthew Wisdom Stolley.
Ann is survived also by her precious grandson, Cody Jackson Wisdom Lokey. She also leaves her brothers, Norton Labatt Wisdom, Jr. (Susan) and David Scott Wisdom (Susan) and her devoted cousin, Adelaide Wisdom Benjamin, as well as many nieces and nephews. Ann spent most of her life in New Orleans.
She was a graduate of the Louise S. McGehee School, which was founded by her great aunt. She received her BA from Newcomb College and while there was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority. During her debut season, Ann reigned as queen of both the Twelfth Night Revelers and The Atlanteans.
Ann and Edward moved to Destin, Florida for several years after their retirement. They returned home to New Orleans in recent months, a move for which her family and friends are particularly grateful. She was delighted to be able to spend time with her family and with her grandson Cody in particular.
She had many friends who recognized in her the kindness, care and support one hopes for but rarely finds. Ann loved reading, art, and the beach. Ann was a superb teacher and one whose special gift with young children made her well-loved by so many.
She leaves a legacy of the thousands of children she taught, loved and cared for in her over 40 year teaching career at Metairie Park Country Day School. She was a gifted educator, devoted to the principle that children learn best through play and that every child has within very special individual talents and abilities. The magic of her classroom influenced the lives of so many young children who learned to believe in themselves through what she inspired in them.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation and services at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. , New Orleans. Visitation will begin at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 17, 2018, with funeral services to follow at 4:00 p.m. A private burial will occur at a later date.
