Private internment will be at Magnolia Cemetery, Charleston SC. Annie Jane was born in Hartsville, SC to Margaret Johnson Kelley and Major Anderson Kelley. She grew up in Hartsville, graduated from Hartsville High School in 1952 and attended Coker College.

After working for DuPont in Camden, SC, she married her childhood sweetheart, Jack Carpenter Langston in 1957. A dedicated Air Force wife, she served at Jack’s side as they were called across the country and in Europe. She enjoyed a career of service to others throughout her life.

Beginning as a child at New Market Methodist Church, she served in various capacities in her churches including many years at Air Force Chapels, Stallsville UMC and Bethany UMC (both in Summerville, SC). She was a lifelong volunteer and servant leader with many organizations including American Red Cross, Girl Scouts, United Methodist Women, Officers’ Wives Clubs and the Flowertown Garden Club. In 1989 she was a recipient of Sertoma’s Service to Mankind Award.

After Jack’s retirement (1978) from the Air Force, they returned to Summerville and the community they loved. Jane was a founder of Meals on Wheels of Summerville. In June of 1982, with a group of local doctors, ministers and volunteers, she identified the need for some of our neighbors to have good nutritious meals provided for them, helped design the program and served as the first executive director for many years.

After retirement from that position, she continued to serve as a board member and volunteer for whatever was needed. During the past 36 years, the program has served more than 4500 people, prepared and delivered more than 1. 2 million meals entirely funded and staffed by the community.

Granjane took joy in connecting with people and in God’s beautiful creation, sharing her love of birds, trees and flowers with her grandchildren.
