OBITUARY Anthony Gerard Salsedo November 4, 1943 – September 2, 2018 Anthony Gerard “Tony” Salsedo was born in San Antonio, Texas on November 4, 1943 and he went home to the Lord on September 2, 2018. He met the love of his life, Gloria, in 1963. Even though they both attended San Antonio Brackenridge High School, they did not meet until both had graduated.

On August 21, 1965, they were married at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in San Antonio. In December of 1966, they celebrated the birth of their daughter, Michelle, and in October of 1972, their son Chris was born. Tony’s work career began in 1968 when he started as a Trainee, Radar Technician at Kelly A.F.B. Tony continued his training and education at Kelly A.F.B. until 1973.

Tony left Kelly A.F.B. having attained the position of Journeyman Flight Control Technician for the F111 aircraft. After leaving Kelly A.F.B., Tony started his career in the pharmaceutical industry by joining Bayer Pharmaceuticals. Bayer hired Tony and transferred him to Corpus Christi, Texas, where he established and opened the area surrounding Corpus Christi and extending into the Rio Grande Valley.

He quickly attained success in the pharmaceutical industry and in 1981 Bayer awarded him the prestigious “Regional Sales Award,” for outstanding sales in year 1981 in the Western Region – a feat he was to repeat in 1991. In 1985, Tony was transferred to Military Hospital Account Specialist and was transferred back to San Antonio. Tony continued with Bayer until 2008, when he retired after reaching the titles of “Certified Medical Representative” and “Senior Cardiothoracic Specialist.

’ Tony joined the Knight of Columbus in 1985 and was active in Council 4140 Crown Ridge as an officer. When Council 9967 was instituted at his home parish, Holy Trinity, he became a Charter Member and served as the new Council’s second Grand Knight. Council 9967 continued to grow and flourish and became a perennial Star Council qualifier.

In 2009, Tony saw the need for a Knights of Columbus Fourth Degree presence at his beloved Holy Trinity parish. He worked diligently on his labor of love, the institution of Holy Trinity Fourth Degree Assembly #3191. As the founding Faithful Navigator, Tony saw to it that the Assembly got off to a quick start making a difference in the lives of those in the community.

In April of 2011, the Assembly launched it’s ‘Wheelchair Mission” campaign and the members were able to raise funds and donate a check in the amount of $25,200 for the purchase of wheelchairs for those in need. Although the Assembly #3191 has been in existence since 2009, it remains active in various capacities from providing Honor Guards for our Clergy, including the Archbishop, to conducting the Annual Garage Sale in May of each year which Tony has chaired since its inception. So far, the Garage Sale has raised thousands of dollars for the Assembly’s charitable endeavors.

An additional project that Tony was very devoted to was the “Coats for Kids Project,” which has been responsible for getting hundreds of coats to needy schoolchildren during November of each year. One of his proudest accomplishments was the fact that at Holy Trinity parish, Tony recruited, trained, and directed all of the Adult Lectors for the parish for the last 30 years! His contributions to his family, church, and community will be sorely missed.

Tony is survived by his devoted wife of 53 years Gloria Jean; his daughter Michelle Salsedo Ruiz and his son Chris Salsedo and his wife Shelley; his beloved grandchildren Nicholas and Noel Anthony Ruiz, Kiki, Chloe and Christopher Gerard Salsedo, II; his sisters Gloria Delgado and Alice Garcia, and his brothers-in-law Henry Rangel and Tony (Cindy) Rangel, sisters-in-law Olga Salsedo, Sr. Rosemary Rangel, O.L.C., Betty Delgado, and Diana (David) Duncan.
