Anthony J. Conte, long time photographer and lover of everything to do with family, died Monday morning, April 9, at his home in Hendersonville, NC. He was 91. Tony, as all knew him, was born in Cranston RI on December 15, 1926 to John and Mary Conte.

The 6th of 7 children, Tony graduated high school and joined the Navy to serve his country in the Pacific Theater in WWII as a naval radio-gunner with the VPB-124 squadron. He was most proud of this and grateful to have returned home when so many did not. After studying photography at Yale, he set off on a 40-year career in photography with most of his time as the track photographer at Rockingham Park in Salem NH.

Along the way, he met and married the love of his life, Faye Swinson, of Morehead City NC. Sadly, she died of cancer in 1978. Tony loved family first and foremost, loved to fly his airplane, hunt in the NH Mountains, play cards (a little black jack) and he absolutely loved living in the warm sunshine of Florida where he spent most of the past 30 years.

He will be best remembered for his charm, his easy smile and his laughter. Tony is survived by his two children Patricia Lynch and John Conte and his wife Margaret, 4 grandchildren; Anthony and his wife, Carrie, Faye and her fiancée, Corey, Jake and his fiancée, Kylie, and Chris and his wife, Nicki, his youngest sister Ginger Pacheco and her husband Raymond and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Faye, son-in-law Allen Lynch, and siblings Mary, Edith, Joesph, Ralph and Larry.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 14, 2018 at the Goundrey & Dewhirst Funeral Home 42 Main St., Salem, NH. Visiting hours start at 9 AM with a small chapel ceremony commencing at 11:00am at the funeral home followed by burial with military honors and prayer in Pine Grove Cemetery, Salem where he will be laid to rest next to his wife.
