Obituary for Antonio Skomina Antonio Skomina, 81, longtime Tompkinsville resident, passed away on June 14, 2018. He was born in Mignano, Italy and in 1958 he immigrated to the U.S. while working on a container ship which docked in NYC. After many different jobs in the U.S. he became a citizen and met his future bride, Helen, and shortly thereafter, they married.

A trained machinist, he worked for various companies before being drafted into the U.S. Army, where he was a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division and an M.P. He served his country proudly and was honorably discharged in 1965. He later became a computer programmer for Manufacturers Hanover Trust Co. in Manhattan.

Tony enjoyed spending time with his family and loved to be a huge part of family gatherings, even up until the last weekend of his life. He was fondly known by all as ”Grandpa”. Tony was a very strong person, who fought death on many occasions, and each time, he was surrounded by his loving family.

He was extremely devoted to his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren, who he adored. Antonio was predeceased by his beloved wife of 52 years, Helen, who passed away in 2014. He is survived by his children, Annemarie Skomina, Rosemarie Billotti, Kathleen Benigno and Anthony Michael Skomina; his brother, Luciano Skomina; his grandchildren, Michael, Alyssa, Nicholas, Amanda, Alexis, Craig, Marisa and Dominic and his great grandchildren, Lucas, Alessandra, Jocelyn and Adriana.

Visitation will take place on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the John Vincent Scalia Home for Funerals, Inc., 28 Eltingville Blvd, Staten Island, New York.
