Obituary for Ardelle L. Thompson Ardelle L. Thompson, 87 Holdrege Resident Ardelle L. Thompson, 87, of Holdrege passed away on December 28, 2018 at her home in Holdrege. Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 5, 2018 at the United Methodist Church in Holdrege. Pastor Nora Mendyk will officiate.
Inurnment will be held at Fort McPherson National Cemetery in Maxwell, Nebraska. Memorials are suggested to the Holdrege United Methodist Church or the Phelps County Foundation in Holdrege. Condolences may be shared online at www.
osrfh.com. Services are entrusted to O’Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral and Cremation Services. Ardelle L. Thompson was born on March 21, 1931 in Loup City, Nebraska to William and Hazel Couton.
She grew up in Loup City and graduated from Loup City High School. Ardelle went on to further her education at the University of Nebraska at Kearney. Ardelle worked for Baxter Laboratory in Morton Grove, Illinois, taught at Loup City Schools and worked as an insurance broker in Holdrege.
She and her husband Glenn were partners in several philanthropic endeavors including their original series of programs for the Nebraska Humanities Council, their significant contributions to the Nebraska Prairie Museum POW exhibit. Ardelle was united in marriage to Glenn Thompson on May 20, 1951 in Loup City and to this union three children were born: Vicki, Dawn and Lori. The family lived in Chicago, Illinois and Scottsbluff, Nebraska over the years.
Ardelle spent most of her adult life in Holdrege where she was a member of the United Methodist Church, extension club, 4-H club leader, Woman’s Club, March of Dimes volunteer and PEO member. Ardelle enjoyed swimming, fishing, camping, cooking, traveling and spending time with friends. She also enjoyed attending concerts and live performances at the Merryman Performing Arts Center in Kearney, the Tassel Performing Arts Center in Holdrege and the Harlan County Dam Playhouse in Alma.
Ardelle was an avid bridge player where she developed many treasured friendships. Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Vicki Hohlfeld and her husband, Allan of Alma, Dawn Bruhn and partner, Brian Schmidt of Phoenix, Arizona, and Lori Dewing and her husband, Bart of Magnolia, IA; 7 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; sister, Shirley Walrath of Loup City; brother, James Couton of Gilmer, Texas; a niece, 4 nephews, other relatives and many friends. Ardelle was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn and her parents.
