August M. Hoffmann of Hatboro passed away on Thursday, June 14, 2018 in his home. He was 95 years old. August was the beloved husband of the late Edith M. Hoffmann with whom he has shared over 58 years of marriage.

He was born in Brohl, Germany on April 22, 1923 a son of the late Lubenz Hoffmann and Johanna Hoffmann (nee Hau). He spent his early life in that town, eventually enlisting in the military where he was an aircraft mechanic. After the war had ended, he and his wife Edith made the decision to move to America.

August moved there alone first in 1954. Then Edith finally joined him a few months later, and they lived in Geneva, Ohio where the two of them had their first child Frederick. In 1962 they moved to Hatboro, Pennsylvania and had their second son Peter.

August found a job as a diesel mechanic with James D. Morrissey where he worked for 26 years. A member of the Vereinigung Erzgebirge club, August enjoyed performing at their annual comedy Karneval. Where he would dress in colorful costumes and entertain the crowds with jokes (mostly of his own written material).

Always one to keep his hands busy, August spent his retired years sailing, woodworking, creating stained glass art, and working on model trains. If anything around the house needed fixing, he would fix it. Sometimes he would even fix things that didn’t necessarily need fixing.

Trips to Germany to visit relatives were an almost annual thing with August and his family. Always wanting to revisit his roots and to keep his family bonds strong, he made sure that his children and grandchildren knew where their ancestry started. Fondly called “Opa” by his family, he also spent a lot of time with his grandchildren.

Helping raise both of them well into their adolescent years. August is survived by two sons; Peter J. Hoffmann and his wife Dawn and Frederick Hoffmann, two granddaughters; Heather and Rachael, and a niece Hanni. Relatives and friends will be received by his family on Saturday, July 7th after 10:00 a.m. in Schneider Funeral Home, 431 N. York Road, Hatboro followed by his Memorial service at 11:00 a,.

m. Interment will follow in St. John Neumann Cemetery, Chalfont. .

Memorials in August’s memory may be made to the Abington Jefferson Home Care, 2510 Maryland Rd #250, Willow Grove, PA 19090.
