OBITUARY Barbara Ann Whittico Bishop November 13, 1935 – October 13, 2018 Barbara Ann Whittico Bishop 82, passed away October 13, 2018. Born in Williamson West Virginia, Barbara is the daughter of the late Dr. James M. Whittico and Rosa Lee Burn-Smith. She graduated from West Virginia State University.

After moving to Louisville, she worked for the Jefferson County Board of Education and the City of Louisville Youth Group Boys and Girls Homes. She also devoted her time as a Newburg Community Activist, Boy Scout Den Mother and a census taker. Barbara was preceded in death by her ex-husband Samuel A. Bishop Jr., son Steven A. Bishop, brother Dr. James A. Whittico Jr., brother-in-law Harry Cox and surrogate parents Herbert and Ethel Jacobs.

Barbara leaves behind to cherish her memory her children LaVerne D. Bishop Sparks (James), Carol L. Bishop and Michael A. Bishop, daughter-in-law Regina Jackson, son-in-law Barry Goines, grandchildren Cory, Shamika, Nero, LaTasha, Cherita, Aubari, Jorell, Marque, Diamond and Princess and great grandchildren Caleigh, Nadyia, Ethan and Spencer. She is also survived by her siblings Sadie L. Cox and Thomas Whittico, sisters-in-law Sylvia Keltee and Sonja “Jackie” Fant and the Jacobs brothers. A service to honor the life of Barbara will be held Saturday, October 27, 2018 at 2-3pm in the chapel of Arch L. Heady at Resthaven Funeral Home with entombment in Resthaven Memorial Park.

The celebration of life will begin at 10:30am. “If you can take your hurt and turn it into joy for me”.
