Barbara (Bobbi) Nelle Elrod Burruss, 87, of Marietta, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 22, 2019. One of eight children, Mrs. Burruss was born September 18, 1931 the daughter of Eugene and Jessie Elrod. Surviving siblings are her beloved twin sisters Mary (Rayford) Barrett of Cornelia and Martha (Joe) Penick of Alto.

She was preceded in death by siblings Jack Elrod, Bill Elrod, Dorothy Tate, Betty Sue Haynes, and Charles Elrod. After graduating from Cornelia High School she met and married the love of her life A.L. Burruss. The newlyweds made their home in Cobb County, started their family in Smyrna, and eventually settled in Marietta where Mrs. Burruss would stay until her death.

Marietta was her home. Bobbi was extremely proud to be known as Mrs. A.L. Burruss – she and Al built a beautiful life serving this community together until his untimely death in 1986. Bobbi carried on with true grace and poise in the days following Al’s death.

Her vibrant and engaging nature, her smile that lit up the room, and her laugh that spread joy in its wake are the elements that come to mind when one thinks of her. She lived her life fully and intentionally, purposing always to be a blessing to those near and dear – ever the generous hostess, ready to share a story or two, lend a helping hand, or a listening ear. As she faced recent years involving health challenges and immobility, she never lost her zest for living and engaging with others.

Mrs. Burruss was preceded in death by her husband A.L. Burruss and infant son Michael Adair Burruss. She is survived by son Robin (Penny) Burruss and daughter Renee (Ken) Davis, five grandchildren – Ashley (Val) Akopov, Meghan (Brad) Respess, Jared Davis, Whit (Lindley) Davis, and Hunter (Molly) Davis, twelve great grandchildren – Kathy (Chris) Guillory, Anna, Henry and Andrew Akopov, Jack, Harry, Teddy and Weezie Respess, Cayden and Quin Davis, Annie Rae and Poppy Davis, and one great great granddaughter Emma Guillory. Her nieces, nephews and cousins are too numerous to count but each and every one is greatly loved.

Family meant the world to Bobbi. She would fill the hours regaling others with the latest milestones and activities of her family and cherished their frequent visits. In lieu of flowers charitable contributions may be made to one of these charities in her honor.

Helping Hands of Georgetown (1813 Highmarket Street, Georgetown, SC 29440), Blue Skies Ministries (1000 Whitlock Avenue, Suite 320, Marietta, GA 30064), or Calvary Children’s Home (1430 Lost Mountain Rd, Powder Springs, GA 30127).
