Obituary Lakeview – Barbara Lois (Nielsen) Towne, age 89, of Lakeview (formerly of Six Lakes), passed away with family by her side on Sunday, July 22, 2018 at the Lakeview Terrace in Lakeview, Michigan. Barbara was born on December 28, 1928 in Pine Township, the daughter of Levi and Stena (Petersen) Nielsen. She was raised in Trufant and graduated from Lakeview High School.

She farmed her entire life, and when she was not working on the farm, Barbara raised five wonderful children. The farm and her family were not the only things important to Barbara, she worked for Fred Meijer as a secretary, the General Electric Credit Union in Edmore, and as the Post Master Relief in Six Lakes until her retirement in 2000. Barbara loved dancing, playing cards, horse pulls, and her family, especially her grandchildren.

She was active in helping her community. Barbara will be missed by her children Gary (Deb) Towne of Six Lakes, Genevieve “Genny” Towne of Cedar Springs, Linda Towne of Lakeview, Marilyn (Bob) McDougall of Sheridan, and Carolyn (Marcus) Hansen of Gowen; 21 grandchildren Tricia (Jeff) Root, Angie (Randy) Taylor, LeighAnne (Rob) Baldwin, Tony (Jen) LeFever, Heather (Chad) Tubbs, Jeb and Jenna Waite, Brandy (Barry) Ryan, Becky (Jim) Jackson, Nic (Mary) Hansen, Lacy (Corey) Hallman, and Taylor Hansen; 19 great-grandchildren Brie, Devin, and Brad, Em, Chase, and Aubrie, Bronson, Claire and Reid, Damian and Avery, Blake and Brock, Saydee and Dakota, Brooklyn, Penny, Lauren, and Mason; two great-great-grandchildren Connor and Knox; several nieces, nephews, and friends. Barbara was preceded in death by her husband George Towne; her parents Levi and Stena Nielsen; step-great-grandson Josh Root; one sister Genevieve Brown; and one brother Ferris (Esther) Nielsen.

Funeral Services for Barbara will be held on Wednesday, July 25, 2018 at 7:00 P.M. with Project Leader for Amazon Brazil Missions Pastor Bob Oliveira officiating, at Brigham Funeral Chapel in Lakeview, Michigan, with a two-hour visitation from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. Light refreshments will immediately follow the service in the Banquet Room. Those wishing to contribute in Barbara’s memory are asked to consider a local charity dear to her heart, “Trufant Friends”.
