Born in Carmichaels, PA, Barbara moved to Washington, DC area after graduating from Cumberland High school. She will be missed by many especially by husband Richard (Butch), son Tom Carney, daughter Susan & Matt Pinkston, daughter Jeannette & Benny Gartrell, son Mike & Eileen Carney, her twin sister Bernadine Rose Mehal McConville & brothers Donald & Ruth Mihalec and late brother Sonny & Anne Martinec. She has 2 granddaughters: Barbara Jean & Samatha; 5 grandsons: Benjamin, Devin, Joseph, Wm.

Casey & Michael; and 2 great grandchildren: Margaret & Lawson. She was a competent, much respected secretary throughout her working career. She especially enjoyed working with Presidential Heating & Air and helping keep the parts ordering straight.

Barbara loved to go camping, boating and playing her Martin D28 at bluegrass festivals and get-togethers. Her cb handle on camping trips was the Four Roses, although we may have been thorns at times. Many fiddle players relied on Barb to keep them in time thanks to her fiddle-playing father who taught her how to play guitar.

You can bet your dupa she loved polka music and learning more Polish words and history of her Polish family background. Along with her family, Barbara enjoyed going to Blob’s Park for big band polka music and food. Barb and Jeannette lived for their Wednesday night trip to Rockville Pike to the Gallery Deli to hear the Johnson Mountain Boys play bluegrass.

Barb had a knack for crochet, and made several dresses. She loved to sew and made Susie and Jeannette many outfits for Easter and other holidays. Barb and Bernie talked every day, which could lead to hysterical laughing fits that they would have to hang up and try to get back their composure and call each other again.

Their parents Mike & Mildred (Sefcik) Mehal had their hands full trying to hold them back. But staying in those hills of Pennsylvania was too slow. She was always on the go, wanting to do things.

Barb was a fearless and would try just about anything. A visitation will be held at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, 4629 Aspen Hill Road, Rockville, MD on Friday, May 11, 2018 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm, ending with prayers. Interment Private.
