Barbara Ann (Mays) Sloan went home to be with the Lord on February [12], 2019, after a startlingly brief illness. Barbara was born in [Eskdale, WV] on December 25, 1935 (the best Christmas present ever), to George & Almeida (Hern) Mays. Barbara was a member of the Eskdale Church of Christ and attended Eskdale Baptist Church as much as she could.

She worked for Kanahwa County Schools for [40? ] years, spending [35? ] of those as secretary of Sharon Dawes Elementary School.

She was the most generous woman to ever live, and gave her time and love to everyone she met. She loved cooking, Jesus, and spoiling her grandbabies – and God help you if you called her in the middle of Jeopardy or General Hospital. She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Betty Jane & Sally, brother George, and the love of her life, husband of 58 years Leonard O. Sloan.

The family is comforted by the thought of their reunion. Barbara will be sorely missed by her two beloved sons, Leonard O. Sloan Jr & his wife Pam, of Myrtle Beach, SC, and Vernon Wayne Sloan & his wife Sally, of South Port, NC; granddaughter & best friend Lauren Nelson (Lee) of Durham, NC; grandsons Nicholas Sloan (Kristyn) of Myrtle Beach, SC, and Ryan Boggess (Heather) of Greensboro, NC; step-granddaughters Abby Owens & Amanda Hudnall, both of Myrtle Beach, SC; and great-grandchildren Benjamin & Paisley Sloan, Tristan Boggess, and Marleigh & Maggie Ann Nelson. Also missing her are brothers Bill Mays (Jill) of Indiana, Jim Mays (Lannette) of Michigan, Johnny Mays (Betty) of Kentucky; and sisters (aka “the Mays girls”) Mary McLaughlin (Bill) of St. Albans, Margaret Pauley (Doug) of St. Albans, Sharon Curry (John) of Atlanta, GA, and Patricia Slone of Kentucky, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins & friends.

Service will be Thursday Feb 14th with a gathering of family and friends, Visitation beginning at 6pm at Pryor Funeral Home with funeral service to be held at 1pm on Friday with Rev James Simmons officiating. Burial will follow in Kanawha Valley Memorial Gardens, Glasgow. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
