Bernadine C. Brey (nee Liebe) of Fredonia passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Sunday, July 15, 2018 at the age of 86 (one day short of her 87th birthday). She was born to Bernard and Genevieve (nee Dehlinger) Liebe in Stevens Point on July 16, 1931. Bernadine married William “Bill” C. Brey on November 28, 1959 in Junction City and together they had six children.

She was an active member of the Legion of Mary and Opus Dei. Bernie was a devoted mother and grandmother and cherished time spent with her family. She was an avid and talented quilter.
Bernie donated several of her quilts to local charities. Her generosity was boundless and she would help anyone in need. Bernie was an enthusiastic Green Bay Packers fan and looked forward to Sunday Mass and later sitting down with her family for hot ham and “the game”.
Bernadine is survived by her children, Mary (Tony) Schneider, Dr. Christopher Brey, Patricia (Tim) Gump, Edward (Dana)Brey, Mike (Julie) Brey and Kim Brey; grandchildren, Maria (Mike) Thomas, Josie Schneider, Tony (Cassandra) Schneider and Veronica Schneider, Lauren (Jesse) Kirk, Olivia and Zachary Gump, Kaitlyn (fiancé Dakota) Brey and Connor Brey, Madeline and Natalie Brey, Jonathan and David Lunsmann; great-grandchildren, Isabella Schneider and Betsy Thomas; sister-in law, Carol Brey; special cousin, Pat Meinholz. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Bernadine was preceded in death by her husband Bill, brothers-in-law, Robert Brey and Gene Marzofka and sister-in-law Norberta Marzofka.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00PM on Tuesday, July 24, 2018 at Divine Savior Catholic Church – St Rose Chapel (305 Fredonia Ave. Fredonia, WI 53021) with Father Kevin Kowalske presiding. Visitation will also be Tuesday, July 24 at the EERNISSE FUNERAL HOME (171 N. Royal Ave.
Belgium, WI 53004) from 10:30AM-12:30PM. Prayer of the Rosary will begin at 12:00PM at the funeral home. Bernadine will be laid to rest next to her husband at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Cemetery in Fredonia.
In lieu of flowers, memorials will be used to set up a nursing scholarship fund in Bernadine’s honor. A special thank you to the staff of Cedar Grove Gardens and Compassus Hospice for their support and care of our mother. The Eernisse Funeral Home of Belgium is honored to assist the family.
