Bernard Gary Joslin, 86 of Conneaut, Ohio, passed away on Saturday, November 3, 2018 at the David Simpson Hospice House in Cleveland. Gary was born on December 6, 1931 in Conneaut, the son of Clair and Corinne (Mahoney) Joslin. He was a 1951 graduate of Conneaut High School.

Following graduation Gary went on to serve his country in the Korean Conflict until he was honorably discharged. Gary then attended Ohio University for two years. Gary was an entrepreneur most of his life while his wife Leah was busy raising their large family.

Gary’s independent spirit led him into several business opportunities including Lakeview Roller Rink and Dance Hall, Gary’s Quick Stop, Western Southern Life Insurance, the Downtowner Motor Inn in Orlando, truck stops, auto dealerships and was well known for Snug Harbor as owner/operator for many years. Gary helped build the Conneaut Boat Club with his father Clair and helped dredge the lagoon at its present-day location. Gary loved to fly airplanes in his younger years, enjoyed riding motorcycles, automobiles, fishing and boating.

Gary was a member of Corpus Christi Parish, where he attended mass at both St. Mary and St. Frances Cabrini. He volunteered his time to snowplow and any other projects the church needed. Family was very important to Gary, as he loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Hugh and Alan Joslin, and daughter-in-law Linda (Varckette) Joslin. Gary is survived by his wife of 61 years, Leah A. (Gustafson) Joslin, whom he married, May 4, 1957 and their nine children: Deanna (Bruce) Fleischmann, Michael (Melanie) Joslin, Kimberly Landis (Scott Swail) Jill (Michael) Chiro, Shawn Joslin, Paul (Michelle) Joslin, Christopher Joslin (Jennifer Byrnes-Bosley), Dawn (J.J.) Eaton, and Thomas Joslin (Carly Clarke); 27 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; sister Janis Robison, and many nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Friday, November 9, 2018 at Corpus Christi Parish Center, 734 Mill St. Conneaut.

Mass of the Christian Burial will follow at 6:00 p.m. on Friday at St. Francis Cabrini Church, with Father Philip Miller and Father Raymond Thomas concelebrating. A private burial will take place at St. Joseph Cemetery, with the American Legion Cowle Post #151 honor squad conducting military honors. Memorial contributions can be made in Gary’s name to Hospice of the Western Reserve, 1166 Lake Ave, Ashtabula, OH 44004 or the Ashtabula County Veterans Service Commission, 1212 Lake Ave, Ashtabula, OH 44004.

Envelopes will be available at the Parish Center or Raisian Family Funeral Home, 581 Harbor St, Conneaut, Ohio.
