Obituary for Bernice Brown Hardy With her family surrounding her, Bernice Brown Hardy, 85, of 389 Lakeside Dr., Danville, VA, moved on to her Heavenly home on Saturday, May 19, 2018, at SOVAH Health of Danville, after a decline in health for the past few years. Mrs. Hardy was born in Franklin County, VA, on October 30, 1932, a daughter of the late Killis Bennett Hogan and the late Ada May McGhee Hogan. She lived most of her life in the Danville area where she retired from Dan River Mills, Inc. after forty-one years of service.
She was a member of Hope Church. She always loved spending time with and taking care of her numerous grandchildren. On July 30, 1978, she married the love of her life, Edward Milton Hardy, who died on December 19, 2016.
Survivors include, a son, Michael Brown and wife Jane, of Danville, VA; two daughters, Phyllis Simpson and husband Kim, and Sheila Cody, all of Danville, VA; a special son-in-law, John Mize; fourteen grandchildren; four step grandchildren; forty-one great grandchildren; sixteen step great grandchildren; five great great grandchildren; one step great great grandchild; a brother, James Hogan and wife Virginia, of Rocky Mount, VA; a sister, Alease Matherly, of Penhook, VA; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by, two daughters, Rachel Mize and Shirley Mattox; a son-in-law, Kit Cody; a great grandson, David Wells; and two brothers, Carl Hogan and Wayne Hogan. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 22, 2018 at 3:00 P.M. at Hope Church with Pastor Brian Edwards officiating.
Interment will follow in Danville Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Monday night at the funeral home from 6:00-8:00 P.M. and at other times will be at the residence. The family suggest that in lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Hope Church, 1118 Franklin Turnpike, Danville, VA, 24540.
