Obituary for Betty Gloria Canning (Thompson) Betty G. Canning, 90, of Silver Lake, passed away on Thursday, January 10, 2019, at her home, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Chicago, IL, on March 30, 1928, she was the daughter of the late August and Ethel (Halverson) Thompson. On February 7, 1953, she married Robert Canning.

He preceded her in death on July 5, 2005. Betty was a homemaker who dedicated her life to caring for her family and others. She enjoyed cooking, doing crafts and other hands-on projects, bird watching, and storytelling.

She is survived by her children, Claudia Canning, Cathy (Karl) Hoffman, and Robert (Christine) Canning; nine grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Karl, Kyler, Claire, Keeley, Cole, Alea, Bekah, and Micha; and two greatgrandchildren, Adalane and Isabel, with two more on the way. She is preceded in death by two brothers, LeRoy and George Thompson; and two sisters, Ethel Diehl and Dorothy Scharfnorth. Services were held privately.
