Betty Jean Morgan Dodd, 85, passed away on October 17, 2018 at Becky’s Rest Home in Fairview, NC. A longtime resident of Asheville, Betty was born on February 20, 1933 in Henderson County to William Theodore ‘W.T.’ and Etta Morgan. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her first husband, Hansel Italy Hyder, her second husband, ‘Woody’ Dodd; daughter, Theresa J. Harper; two brothers, Lane Morgan and William J. Morgan; and two sisters, Reva Jones and Elva Boone.

A charter member of Happy Valley Baptist Church for over 40 years where she attended faithfully and was involved in all the activities of the church. Betty loved fishing with her best friend and sister-in-the-Lord, Benny. Together, they both volunteered daily for years at the Asheville Salvation Army Store.

Betty was employed at Uniform Rental Services in Skyland, NC for over 27 years and received numerous awards for decades of perfect attendance. Betty is survived by her son, Earl H. Hyder of Asheville, NC; nephew, Marvin Jones of Stecoah, NC; and nephew, Larry Boone and his sister, Betty’s niece, Joyce of Hendersonville, NC. A memorial service with Pastor Perry Burke officiating will be held on Sunday, November 18th at 2:30 PM with a fellowship meal to follow.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Salvation Army or Happy Valley Baptist Church. Both of these organizations were the center of her favorite places to be involved with and in. Granny will be dearly missed by all of her family, friends, and her cat, ‘Sassy!
