Paul Andrew Vernarsky of Asheville, age 69, passed away at his home September 9, 2018. Paul was born in Wintersville, Ohio, February 23, 1949. He graduated from Wintersville High School in 1967 and lived in Steubenville, Ohio until he enrolled at Warren Wilson College, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree.

After college, he taught history one year at St. Genevieve-Gibbons Hall. On June 5, 1972, he began working as a stockbroker with J. Nathan McCarley & Company in Asheville, North Carolina. Although the brokerage firm experienced six company changes, Paul did not change jobs himself, but continued to build his forty-six- year career and became Senior Vice President of Investments, Certified Financial Planner with Wells Fargo Advisors, LLC.

Paul was known for his yellow ties, his intellect, his quick wit, his love of golf, his loyalty, and, above all, his generosity. Paul is survived by Paige C. Vernarsky, wife, of Asheville, NC; Jill Vernarsky Passmore, daughter, of Ocean Isle Beach, NC; Jerry Passmore, Jr., grandson, of Raleigh, NC; Elizabeth Passmore Fleming, granddaughter, and her husband Bradley of Batam, Indonesia; Aspen, Kenan, Asher and Halia, great grandchildren, of Batam, Indonesia; Patty Phelan, sister, of Sun Lakes, AZ; Sean Phelan and Mark Tater, nephews, of AZ; Lori Tater, niece, of AZ; Sandy Goode, sister-in-law, and husband Gerald of Ocoee, TN; their daughter Heather Goode and grandson Chandler Goins of Benton, TN; Elizabeth Lively, sister-in-law, and husband James Edward of LaFayette, GA, their daughter Tracy Broyles and granddaughter Montanna Broyles of Naples, FL; George Link, brother-in-law, and his wife Gincy of Cleveland, TN; Wesley John Link, nephew, of Cleveland, TN; Sabel Ann Hooper, niece, her husband Dale, and their children Rusty Dailey, Keith Hooper and Natalie Holder of Charleston, TN and their grandchildren; Eddie Couch, nephew, and his wife Ruth of Benton, TN and their children and grandchildren; Mary Frances Couch, sister-in-law, of Cleveland, TN; Eunice Couch, sister-in-law, of Cleveland, TN; Susie Wilson, niece, of Athens, TN; and many other family members, friends, colleagues and clients, many of whom he considered friends. Paul was preceded in death by his beloved son-in-law Jerry M. Passmore, his mother Veronica Vernarsky Bonham, his sister Jeanne Vernarsky Tater, and nephew Doug Tater.

At Paul’s request, a formal service will not be held. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Jerry M. Passmore Center PO Box 8181 Hillsborough, NC 27278. Please note “In Memory of Paul Vernarsky” on your check.
