Betty Jean (Scheibe) Runge, 74 passed away Wednesday January 2, 2019 at home with her family by her side after battling cancer as long as she could. She was born in Appleton on November 25, 1944, daughter of the late Victor and Erma (Sievert) Scheibe. Betty was united in marriage to the love of her life, Owen H. Runge on June 27, 1964.

They spent 48 wonderful years working, hunting, fishing, gardening, traveling, and doing so much more together before his death on November 4, 2012. Betty graduated from Fox Valley Lutheran High School in 1963, and began working at the S.C. Shannon/Nash Finch Company for 32 years. She later worked at Mills Fleet Farm Corporate office for nine years.

She retired to take care of Owen during his lengthy illness. She enjoyed her retirement with gardening and yard work. Betty was a lifetime faithful member of St. Peter Lutheran Church, Freedom where she volunteered her time and talent to the church and school lunch program, which she loved to see all the children each day.

Betty attended many of her grandchildren’s sporting events and enjoyed every moment of it. She also enjoyed watching NASCAR racing and the Green Bay Packers. Betty loved traveling and spending time with her family.

Betty will be remembered with love and affection by her two children: Wanda (Danny) Holtz, Seymour, and Brian (Laurie) Runge, Freedom; she will be sadly missed by her four grandchildren who she loved very much: Brandon (Jessica) Holtz, Horicon, Brentt (Amanda) Holtz, Seymour, Jessica (Denver) Pritzl, Appleton and Kimberly Runge (special friend David Mantes), Freedom; three great grandchildren: Tyson Holtz, Horicon, Peyton Campbell and Paisleigh Holtz, Seymour; two sisters: Donna (James) Klatt and Susan (John) Huff; two brothers: Larry (Jane) Scheibe and Lester Scheibe ; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, cousins and dear friends. She was further preceded in death by two sisters: Carol Ann Gieger and Mary Ann Grimm; father and mother in-law: William and Catherine (Magee) Runge; and brother in-law Robert Grimm. Funeral service for Betty will be 12:00 PM (noon) on Saturday January 5, 2019 at ST.

PETER LUTHERAN CHURCH, N2740 French Road, Appleton, with Rev. Tim Glende officiating. Visitation will be held at the church Saturday morning beginning at 9:00 until 11:45 AM, with the service to start at 12:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for St. Peter Lutheran building fund. Betty’s family would like to sincerely thank all of her kind hearted friends who have touched her life and for all the prayers to help her fight each day. A special thank you also to the great team of Doctors and Nurses at ThedaCare Cancer Center for giving Betty the extra days to enjoy with her family and friends.

Betty had that smile that she showed to everyone. She showed her love, patience, kindness and care by sharing her chocolate chip cookies and fresh baked buns, that you just couldn’t get enough of.
