Joanne Cox dies at 91 Joanne Cox of Chesterton died on September 15, 2018 at 9 p.m. She was 91. She was born on November 19, 1926 in Wichita, KS, the adopted daughter of Arthur and Myrtle Payne, both of whom preceded her in death. On June 4, 1950, she married LeRoy E. Cox who preceded her in death in 1999.

She is survived by her children: Pamela (Rift Slater) Pawlik of Chesterton, Rebecca (Brian) Tully of Hayden, AL, and Richard (Laura) Cox of Crawfordsville, IN; her grandchildren: Heather (Chad) Compton of Chesterton, IN Lesley Woods of Lake of the Four Seasons, IN, Darcy (Andrew) Brasher of Fultondale, AL, Adam Tully of Pittsburgh, PA, Audrey (Daryl) Willingham of Birmingham, AL, Joel (Sangita) Tully of Birmingham, AL, Jessica Cox of Valparaiso, IN, and Christopher Cox of Kalamazoo, MI; and by her great-grandchildren: Dainen Woods of Lake of the Four Seasons, IN, Dakota Compton of Chesterton, IN, Gillian Brasher of Fultondale, AL, and Chloe Brasher of Fultondale, AL. Joanne was an avid bridge player and was awarded a Jr. Masters commendation in Tulsa, OK. She won several years of competitive bridge tournaments, and she also taught bridge classes.

She enjoyed needlework and was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. She was employed as an Executive Administrative Assistant to the President and Vice President of the Levy Company at the Port of Indiana for 20 years. She was a member and Sunday School teacher at the First United Methodist Church in Chesterton.

She also attended Porter First United Methodist Church in her later years. A private family service is planned. Memorial donations may be given to Meals on Wheels, 2401 Valley Dr., Valparaiso, IN 46383.
