DANVILLE, IL – Betty L. (Huffman) Bowles, age 87, of Danville, Illinois, and formerly of Greenfield, passed away on March 5, 2019 at OSF Sacred Heart Hospital in Danville. She was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on June 22, 1931 to Josef E. & Mildred M. (Yorger) Huffman. She graduated from Maxwell High School in 1951.

Betty married Albert V. Bowles on February 11, 1951. As a pastor’s wife, she loved volunteering through various churches she and her husband served and at Good Shepherd, where she helped provide recreational activities and Bible study groups. In 2005, she was awarded the Hancock County Older Hoosier of the Year Award for her service at Good Shepherd.

Betty attended Faith United Methodist in Greenfield. She was a past den mother for Cub Scouts in Philadelphia and a past member of the Greenfield Lions Club. She loved crafting and playing cards, such as Euchre, Hand and Foot, Uno, and also Chinese Checkers.

Betty is survived by her sons, Dr. Richard L. (Sharon L.) Bowles of Danville, IL, Ronald J. Bowles of Bloomington, IN, and John Albert (Michelle) Bowles of Salem, IN; five grandchildren, Alexander, James, Tiffeny, Travis, and Johnathan; and several great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Josef and Mildred Huffman; husband, Albert Bowles; brother, Robert Josef Huffman; and sister-in-law, Mary Ann Huffman. Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 10, 2019, from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory, 1484 W. US Hwy.

40, Greenfield, IN 46140. A funeral service will be held immediately following the visitation at 1:30 p.m. at the mortuary. Pastor Brent Smith will be officiating.

Burial will follow at Philadelphia Church Cemetery in Greenfield. Memorial contributions may be made by mail to Faith United Methodist Church, 328 N.
