Betty’s Obituary Betty Marie Forney, 86, formerly of Port Byron, died Thursday, February 7, 2019 at Rosewood Care Center, Moline. Services will be held at 10am Tuesday, February 12, 2019 at Gibson-Bode Funeral Home, Port Byron. Visitation will be 4-6 pm Monday, February 11th at the Funeral Home.

Burial will be in the Rock Island National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Beacon of Hope Hospice. Marie was born December 30, 1932, in Chillicothe, IA, the daughter of Edward and Clara (Shilling) Kelsey.

She married Richard D. Forney in June of 1950 in Ottumwa, IA. Marie was employed as an LPN at the former St. Luke’s Hospital, now Genesis in Davenport, and later at nursing homes. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, serving three years as District President and one year as Division President.

She was involved with Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts, and enjoyed sewing, reading, and helping with 4-H. Marie is survived by her children, Cheryl (Steve) Reader, East Moline, Richard Dean (Kay) Forney, Cary IL; siblings, Bonnie Cook, Bettendorf, Rebecca Kelsey, Des Moines, IA, Paul Kelsey, Grand Junction, CO; four grandchildren, Shawn Forney, Chad Reader, Dawn Reader, Shannon Forney; and a great-granddaughter, Braelyn Forney. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Richard, and siblings, Mary Lou Major, Lloyd, Edward, and Keith Kelsey, and Margaret Kelsey at birth.
