Betty May Verdi of Dundee, New York May 5, 1936 – February 13, 2019 Betty May Verdi, 82, of Dundee, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday February 13, 2019 at Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hospital, Penn Yan, New York. Betty was born May 5, 1936 in Hackensack, N.J., one of two daughters of the late Albert and Katherine (Amerman) Baumann. On April 16, 1955 in St. Margaret’s Church, in Little Ferry, N.J. she married the late Walter Joseph Verdi Sr., who passed away on their 40th wedding anniversary April 16, 1995.

A telephone switchboard operator before she started her family; once her family reached school age, she returned to work in the clerical department of Numerex a freight payment service in Maywood, N.J. She retired from the company’s successor STI, in 2008 when she moved to Dundee. Mrs. Verdi was a member of Red Hat Society, and was the Secretary and Treasurer of the St. Marks Terrace Dundee Tennant Association.

In her spare time she enjoyed cooking, her Lasagna being a family favorite; crochet and knitting hats for babies and children in hospitals and for gifts at Touch of Christmas was also a devoted pleasure for her. She is loved and will be dearly missed by her two sons, Walter J. (Madeline) Verdi Jr. of Dundee, Thomas E. (Mary) Verdi of Jacksonville, Fla. ; two daughters, Kathryn S. (Patrick) Connolly Sr. of Penn Yan, Louise M. (Michael) DeLiberto of Wood Ridge, N.J.; six grandchildren, Heather (Michael) Dobreski of Fairport, Stephanie (William) Hansen of Lincoln Park, N.J., Susan Connolly of Dumont, N.J., Patrick Connolly, Jr. of Penn Yan, Amanda DeLiberto, and Alyssa DeLiberto, both of Wood Ridge, N.J.; five great-grandchildren Evan Dobreski, Gwendolyn, Liam, Nora, and Henry Hansen; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents and husband, she was pre-deceased by her sister, Kathryn A. Hinck of Manahawken, N.J. in 1994.
