Bluefield, WV – Betty S. Basham 93 of Augusta Street Bluefield, WV died Friday March 15, 2019 at a Bluefield hospital. Born February 11, 1926 a daughter of the late Ernest Oswell Bennett and Josephine Louise Marushia Bennett, she was a lifelong resident of Bluefield. Betty was of the Protestant faith, was a graduate of Bluefield High School, attended Bluefield College and received her nursing and X-Ray Technician training at Philadelphia General Hospital.

She was a member of Order of Eastern Star Chapter 66. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Donald Ralph Basham and her brothers Mike and Robert Bennett. She is survived by a son; Douglas B. Clendenin and his wife Sylvia Williams of Clayton, NC, a daughter; Joann Hammond and her husband Carl of Hurricane, WV, step daughter Christine Grady and her husband Gary of Charleston, SC, step son; Donald R. Basham, Jr. of TX, granddaughter; Lori Clendenin and her husband Charles Lowe of Bluefield, WV and several other extended family members.

A service to celebrate Betty’s life will be held Tuesday March 19, 2019 at Mercer Funeral Home Chapel at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Doug McDaniel officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until service time Tuesday.

Entombment will follow at Monte Vista Park Cemetery at Green Valley where family and friends will serve as pallbearers. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to ALIVE Animal Services P.O. Box 5462 Princeton, WV 24740.
