Beverly Kay Kuizema, age 71, passed away Saturday December 15, 2018 at Hope Hospice in Cape Coral, FL. She suffered a stroke but grace allowed 12 last days of life with close family. She was born March 16, 1947 in Grand Haven, MI to Anton Nerad and Kathryn Nerad.
On April 30, 1994, she and Sidney Kuizema were married by his father, Reverend Harmon Kuizema. Beverly graduated from Grand Haven High School and attended Ferris College for one year. She chose a career contributing to the social good as the director of finance and contracting for 30 years at Lakeshore Coordinating Council (formerly A.M.O.S.A.), a funding agency for substance abuse rehabilitation programs for several Southwest Michigan counties.
In retirement, she and her husband moved from Michigan to Six Lakes Country Club in North Fort Myers, Florida, where they resided for the past 13 years. Beverly was a very involved member of First Reformed Church for 58 years, and sang in the choir. She was an elder and choir member with Holy Trinity Presbyterian Church, North Fort Myers.
She was a member of the alliance board of directors at Six Lakes Country Club, planning events. Her creative interests included quilting beautiful works while active with the Southwest Florida Quilter’s Guild, as well as painting flowers and other pictures. She had a head for stories and characters, reading voraciously and chatting with the book club, watching movies, and delighted in her season tickets to the Broadway Palm Dinner Theatre.
She enjoyed playing social games like bridge and scrabble, and stayed active riding bicycles and walking several miles each day. She loved taking many short trips, along with visits to Connecticut, and often returned to Michigan to see friends and relatives. She is survived by her husband, Sidney Kuizema, North Fort Myers, FL; brother Tom Nerad and his wife Jane Tomlinson, Rockville, MD; stepson Lawrence Kuizema and his wife Suzanne Becker, Norwalk, CT; stepson Scott Kuizema and his wife Renee, grandson Riley and granddaughter Emerson all of Allendale, MI.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and her brother Fred Nerad. Beverly knew the way to salvation. She was loved by many and will be missed.
