Billy E. Sherrod, 86, of East Moline, formerly of Lady Lake, Fla. , passed away Friday May 18, 2018 at home. Services will be 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 3030 7th Ave.

, Rock Island, with visitation from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Tuesday prior to services. Burial, with military honors presented by Moline American Legion Post 246, will be in National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. Memorials may be made to Heartland Hospice or to Disabled American Veterans.

Billy was born March 3, 1932 in Knoxville, Tenn. , a son of Claude F., Sr. and Pauline Ralston Sherrod. He married JoAnn L. Ponce on October 30, 1954 in East Moline, Ill.

He was a U.S. Army veteran. He was a welder and set-up man for Ametek and George Evans Corp for many years. He retired in 1994.

Billy enjoyed gardening, fishing, gambling, and going to garage sales. Some of his favorite times were spent with his family, especially his grandchildren. He will be fondly remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather, and will be greatly missed by all.

Those left behind to cherish his memory are his wife, JoAnn, of East Moline; daughters and sons-in-law, Terri and Mark Henry, Erie, Ill. , and Sandra and Carl Horton, Carbon Cliff, Ill. ; daughter-in-law, Lisa Sherrod Coleman, and her husband Jim, Rock Island; grandchildren, Brandon (Heather) Johnson, Derrick (Brooke) Johnson, Jordan (Allyson) Henry, Yvonne (Paul) Lane, Whitney (Jordan) Lane, Scott Horton, Joshua (Amanda) Sherrod, Jamie Sherrod and Jennifer Sherrod; great-grandchildren,Brennen, Izak, Adalyn, Laura, Alivia, Landin, Sawyer, Ashlyn, Ava, Colton, Ethan, Andrew, Blake, Drew, Briann, Jaydon, Landin and Audie; and numerous nieces, nephews, and additional family.

Billy was preceded in death by his parents; son, Dennis Sherrod; brothers, Thomas Sherrod and Claude F. Sherrod, Jr.; and sisters, Helen Anderson and Dorothy Nelson.
