Obituary for Billy G. Campbell Memorial services for Billy G. Campbell, 88, of Athens, are scheduled for Sunday, December 23, 2018 at 2:00 PM at Lake Athens Baptist Church with Bro. Mike Curry officiating. Mr. Campbell passed away December 21, 2018.

He was born August 30, 1930 in Henderson County. He retired from the United States Air Force having served from 1949 to 1969 in both the Territory of Alaska and Korea. After retiring from the military, Mr. Bill taught science for two years at Cross Roads and science and distributive education for thirteen years in Athens.

Known as Uncle Willie, he joined the Texas Baptist Men’s Church Builders in 1992. He traveled all over building numerous churches and volunteering for disaster relief for Christ and the Glory of God. He served as the second vice president of the organization before retiring in 2014.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Athens from 1968 to 2017 and served as deacon from 1969 to 1976 before joining Lake Athens Baptist Church. Poppa was a lover of God and family and especially loved spending time with his grandchildren. Bill loved writing poems, was an avid reader and story teller whose hobbies included carving, woodworking and playing Free Cell.

He is preceded in death by parents, William Oscar Campbell and Mary Myrtis Corkern; and brothers, Jimmy Dan and Bobby Lane Campbell. Survivors include wife, Mattie Lou Campbell of Athens; children, Susan Partida and husband Marty of Whitehouse, Russell Campbell and wife Traci of Bastrop; brother-in-law, R.B. Richardson and wife Peggy of Athens; sister-in-law, Billie Campbell of Frankston; grandchildren, Russell Byron Campbell II and Stormie, Amanda Brite and Steven, Sarah Howard and Sky and Darah Partida; great grandchildren, Madilyn Rose Campbell, Rustin Brite, Asher Howard, Brinley Campbell and Nevaeh Jena; and numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
