Funeral services for Billy Joe “B.J.” Powell, Sr., age 74, will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, January 20, 2018 at Montrose Baptist Church, with interment to follow at Montrose City Cemetery. Rev. Randy Mimbs will officiate.

Mr. Powell was born November 27, 1943 in Dublin, Georgia. He was the son of the late Charlie Cullen and Cherrie Inez Slaughter Powell. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Beth Killingsworth Powell, and son, Richard Upshaw.

He was a member of Montrose Baptist… Read More » Church where he also served as a Deacon. He was the owner and operator of Powell Equipment Sales. He also worked at Georgia Kaolin, Southeast Paper Company, and Evans Cabinet Company.

He had the passion and the ability to repair anything. Mr. Powell passed away Tuesday, January 16, 2018 at his residence. Mr. Powell is survived by sons, Joey (Tara Brantley) Powell of Montrose, and Jody (Tami) Upshaw of Marietta, a brother, Claude Cullen (Joyce) Powell of Thomson, a nephew, Tripp Powell, a niece, Darcy Hayes, and 3 grandchildren, Kristen Powell, Emma Powell, Katie Powell, and 8 others.

Pallbearers will be Andrew Dukes, Brian Childers, Billy Canaday, Tim Lentile, Billy Touchberry, and Bill Topping. . Honorary Pallbearers will be the Deacons of Montrose Baptist Church.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. Friday, January 19, 2018 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers and food the family requests donations be made to the Montrose Baptist Church building fund at 4314 U.S. Highway 80 West, Montrose, Georgia 31065, to the American Cancer Society at 804 Cherry Street, Macon, Georgia 31201, or to the Laurens County Animal Shelter at 618 Firetower Road, Dublin, Georgia 31021. Stanley Funeral Home and Crematory/Dublin Chapel has charge of funeral arrangements.
