Billy Ray Atkinson Saginaw, Michigan A loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather went home to be with his Saviour, Saturday, January 5, 2019. Age 91 years. Billy Ray was born in Durham, North Carolina, the son of the late, Alice (Davis) and Stephen Atkinson on April 22, 1927, coming to Michigan in 1955.

He had been employed at Grey Iron Foundry, retiring July 1, 1991. He was a member of U.A.W Local 668. He served with the U.S. Navy during WWII, serving on the USS Foss, USS Dayton and the USS Mississippi.

He attended the Church of God and Old Town Christian Outreach Center. He married Mary Sue Carpenter in Saginaw, MI; She predeceased him. Surviving are one daughter, three sons, Saundra Carpenter, Bay City, MI; Larry Atkinson; Ronnie (Kathleen) Atkinson; Wayne (Sue) Carpenter all of Saginaw, MI; fifteen grandchildren, Lori (David) Brown; Lisa (James) Platko; Daniel (Cheryl) Atkinson; Misty (Tom) Gould; Wesley Atkinson; Christopher (Alison) Atkinson; Leslie (Fred) Lewis; Stephen (Courtney) Atkinson; Lindsey Harlukowicz; Ivy Carpenter; Eva (Matt) Wilson; Dustin (Samantha) Carpenter; Ann Rose; Wesley Carpenter; Brian Carpenter; many great grandchildren; one brother, Stephen Atkinson; two sisters, Vera Nichols and Alice Faye; many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents and a son, Michael Carpenter, a grandson, Justin Carpenter, and a grandson-in-law, Brandon Rose, one brother and several sisters. The funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 10, 2019, at Old Town Christian Outreach Center, 600 Gratiot Rd, Saginaw. Rev.

Bill Bodnar will officiate with Military entombment in Roselawn Memorial Mausoleum under the auspice of V.F.W. Post 1859. Friends may visit with family at the W. L. Case and Co. Funeral Chapel, 4480 Mackinaw Rd. from 2:00-9:00 p.m. Wednesday and then at the church on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service.
