Passed away on Wednesday, January 2, 2019 in Saginaw, Michigan. Age 73 years. He was born on February 19, 1945, son of the late Alex and Lucinda Reed, in Pace, Mississippi.

Jessie enlisted in the Navy after high school and later served in the Army. He was a Veteran of the Vietnam War. Upon return from the service he worked for the United States Postal Service and the banking system.

Jessie earned a Bachelor’s Degree from Central Michigan University and a Master’s Degree from Saginaw Valley State University and made a career of being an educator. He retired from teaching in both City of Saginaw Public Schools, where he taught at the Saginaw Career Complex Center and Saginaw High School and the Clark County School District of Las Vegas, Nevada, as well as the U.S. Military where he was an educator for the soldiers. He is survived by his wife Alison (Jones) and his children: LaCreShanette, Anthony, Mandisa, Jessica Hicks, Reginald Jeff, Mary Martinez, and Vonda; brother Biilie Brooks and sister Linda; his mother and father-in-law Lillie and Stephen Jones; grandchildren Maurice Jr. and Cheyenne Zanders as well as other grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He also leaves behind his cherished dogs, Bear and Princess. He was preceded in death by his parents, twin brother John, sister, Edna Greenwood, and step-brother, London Cox. Memorial service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 14, 2019 at Bethel A.M.E. Church, 535 Cathay Street.

Rev. Dennis Laffoon will officiate with military honors conducted under the auspices of the United States Military. Honoring Jessie’s wishes cremation has taken place.

Close relatives and friends will be received at Bethel A.M.E. Church on Monday, January 14, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. We’re asking for you to respect the family’s privacy at this time.
