OBITUARY Bob “Gene” Sterrett September 15, 1932 – December 18, 2018 STERRETT, Robert Eugene “Bob”, met his Lord and Savior face-to-face December 18, a week after celebrating their 66th wedding anniversary with his beloved Peg. He was born Sep 15, 1932 to Bob and Nellie Sterrett in Huntington, West Virginia, but spent his childhood and early adult life in and around Pittsburgh. A polio survivor, he graduated with honors from Ambridge High School and Geneva College.
While attending Geneva full-time, he worked full-time in one of the mills in the area and started raising a family with the love of his life. In 1966, they moved their young family to Richmond where he accepted the position of vice-president with Virginia Technical Associates, and later with Dominion Technical Associates. While the academic and professional part of his life is important, his focus was always on his God, his faith, his family, and his church.
He was a tenacious prayer warrior who constantly lifted up his family, friends, and anyone he knew. As long as he was able, he was at church anytime the doors were open. He had a servant’s heart, pitching in wherever he could, especially when singing in choirs at West End Alliance, Third Presbyterian and briefly at Derbyshire Baptist churches.
He loved his family and rejoiced in the company of all of them, especially during family and holiday dinners where he and Peg hosted as many of the 30 family members plus friends that could make it. Their home was, and still is, a place where love and acceptance flowed freely to all. He helped instill in his family a love for God and country.
The work ethic he modeled has been a shining example to his children and grandchildren. No account of his life would be complete without a mention of his passion for the Steelers, Penguins, and Pirates. He was preceded in death by a son, Steven Eugene Sterrett, and grandson, Steven Michael Sterrett.
Left waiting to reunite with him are his wife Peg, son Ed (Meda), daughters Suzi Sterrett, Cindy Sterrett, and Lisa Willard, grandchildren Beth Sims (James), Erin Eckert (Andrew), Erica Larson (Carl), Megan Lowe (Brandon), Sam Allen (Shauna), and Lindsey Allen (Davis), 8 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren, and a brother Fred, and his family. The family will receive visitors at Woody Funeral Home, Parham Chapel Wednesday, Dec 26 from 11:00 – 1:00. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Jan 12 at 11:00 at Derbyshire Baptist Church.
