Obituary for Brenda Carol Kilpatrick Scharton Brenda Carol Kilpatrick Scharton, 61, passed away on September 16, 2018 in her home in Kerrville. Born May 22, 1957 in Seminole Texas, Brenda had boundless energy and limitless love for family and friends. From working as a dump truck driver during the West Texas oil boom of the late 70’s to assisting in seismic survey for oil and gas in Anchorage Alaska; she finally settling into a 21-year career as a HEB Deli manager.

Brenda enjoyed the challenges of her working life but her passion was enriching the lives of special needs children and adults. After coaching Special Olympics for 20 years she then became a founding member of the Jason Walford Memorial Foundation. Dedication to creating engagement and social activities for underserved adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities, took Brenda from rodeos to water parks, golf courses to holiday parties.

It seemed that Brenda could squeeze more than 24 hours from a day as she also was a Girl Scout Troop Leader, decorated the extended families wedding and birthday cakes, created mums and bridal bouquets, and had time to listen to and love anyone who needed her. Brenda’s example showed us how to be brave while scared, indomitable when exhausted, and blithe during hardship. She was loved and will be forever missed.

Brenda is preceded in death by her parents Marvin and Carol Day, sister Mary Alice Quals, dear friend JR Wineberg, and beloved Grandparents. Those left to honor her memory include her children Cynthia Cushman, Amanda Cushman, and Mike Scharton. Siblings Barbra Burgamy, Beverly Stewart, Cassie Rainey, and James Kilpatrick.

Lifelong friends Tish Nelson and Kina Senior, Granddaughter Zoey Benson. Those she loved just like her own children and siblings: Jason Benson, Alexis Scharton, Donnie Burgamy, Amy Stewart, Jensie Taylor, Audrey Haas, Missi Thomas, Ron “Gene Boy” Storms, Amy Gonzales, numerous nieces and nephews, and anyone that ever-called Brenda “Coach” or “Aunt Bea”.
