Obituary of Calla Hussey Star – Calla Jewel Chrisco Hussey, age 86, peacefully passed into the arms of Jesus, surrounded by her loving family, Thursday, January 3, 2019, at her home. Mrs. Hussey was born in Moore County on July 9, 1932, to Vernon Theodore and Gladys Presnell Chrisco. She was a wonderful homemaker, a life-long and faithful member of Star United Methodist Church and Church Choir, a member of the Eastern Star Chapter 111, and a charter member of the Star Beautification and Revitalization Committee.
We celebrate her legacy as we remember things she is well known for such as her delicious cakes, homemade breads, original Christmas ornaments, her passion for music, her gifted voice, and her love of being a mother and grandmother, not just to her own but to the multitudes. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Tracy E. Hussey, Sr., her grandson, Christopher Shawn Freeman, and her siblings, Max and Otis Chrisco, Wanda Stone, and Lucille Hodgin. She is survived by three daughters, Deborah Spivey and husband, Cletus, of Biscoe, Jewel Elizabeth Hussey of Denver, Colorado, and Phyllis Parsons of Candor; three sons, Tracy Hussey, Jr. and wife, Carlynne, of Burlington, David Hussey and wife, Robin, of Star, and Joseph Hussey and wife, Joan, of Concord; 15 grandchildren, Ashley Gunnell (Jeff), Trey Hussey (Kristi), Leslie Parsons (Carrick), Brian Hussey, Laura Dawkins (Matthew), Charity Hicks, Billy Hallyburton (Linda), Kristin Grabarek and Jason Miller, Dave Grabarek and Jen Kang, Timothy Parsons (Angie), Kevin Parsons (Jessica), Jaclyn Robinson (Nick), Jayme Gordon (Christian), and Jolyn Brown (Tyler); 24 great-grandchildren, Cameron and Krista Gunnell, Peyton Hussey, Mason and Hadley Hussey, Anna and Maggie Parsons, Noah and Caroline Dawkins, Christopher Hicks, Kaitlin and Billy Hallyburton, Willow Burchette, Wesley Roper, Stella Miller, Ariana, Lily, Kailey, Wyatt and Waylon Parsons, Madalyn and Kylie Parsons, Aubree Robinson, and Jonah Gordon.
The family will receive friends Saturday, January 5, 2019, from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at Phillips Funeral Home in Star. A graveside service will be held on Sunday, January 6, at 2:00 PM at Star United Methodist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Kay Boone officiating.
