Calvin Coolidge Thornal, Sr., 93, of Ridgeville, SC widower of the late Leola Hoff Thornal, passed away Monday, July 9, 2018 at Life Care Center of Charleston. Funeral Services will be Thursday morning, July 12, 2018 at Limestone Baptist Church at 11 o’clock. Burial will follow in the Churchyard.

Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 6 until 8 o’clock at Parks Funeral Home. Flowers will be accepted. Calvin was born February 17, 1925 in Lane, SC, the son of Leroy Thornal and Lottie Ross Thornal.

He honorably served in the US Navy and was a WWII Veteran. He retired from the Charleston Naval Shipyard in Naval Repair. He enjoyed fishing and hunting, and loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren while teaching them his hobbies.

He was also the caretaker for Merkel Acres. Calvin leaves behind his son, Calvin Thornal, Jr. of Bonneau, SC; two daughters, Gloria Clark of Summerville, SC, and Barbara Cartagena (Mike) of Bonneau Beach, SC; eight grandchildren, Sonya Ott (Jim), Shawn Thornal (Beth), Kim ton (Mike), Donny Driggers, Jr. (Melissa), Barry Driggers (Nikki), Becky Bose (Tim), Tracy Coldren, and Crystal Alexander; and nineteen great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife, Leola Thornal, he is predeceased by a daughter, Annette Thornal, and a great-granddaughter, Sarah.
