Carl “Butch” Martin, 77, of Hamburg, died Tuesday, February 19, 2019. Mr. Martin was a native and lifelong resident of Hamburg. Butch was a hard worker, was a heavy equipment operator for the Arkansas State Highway Department for 14 ½ years and the Ashley County Road Foreman for 22 years.

He was a member of the Martinville Baptist Church. Butch was an avid coon hunter, a family man, and he loved spending time with his grandkids and great-grandkids. He is preceded in death by a son, Charles “Bush Hog” Martin in 2011; his parents, Charlie and Pauline Knobloch Martin and a sister, Peggy Ann Martin.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Gladys Rice Martin; his children, Frankie Martin and wife, Christie, and Cindy Yates and husband, Joe Fred; his daughter-in-law, Nancy Martin, all of Hamburg; his brothers, James J. Martin, John H. (Johnny) Martin and wife, Lois, all of Hamburg and Gerald Richard Martin of Gateway; nine grandchildren, Nikki Powers and husband, Jason, Heather Croft, Clayton McGilton, C.J. McGilton and wife, Destiny, Brandon Carpenter, Ryan Carpenter and wife, Danna, Justin Martin and wife, Shelly Whitt, Dakota Martin and wife, Amy, Jennifer Hughes and husband, Phillip, 16 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. Funeral services are 2 p.m., Thursday, February 21, 2019, at the Martinville Baptist Church with Bro. Robin Allen officiating.

Burial will be in the Crossroads Cemetery. Pallbearers are Cody Hollaway, Bryan Hall, Dakota Martin, Justin Martin, C.J. McGilton, Clayton McGilton, Brandon Carpenter, Ryan Carpenter, Jason Powers, and Dirk Courtney. Honorary pallbearers are Don Hartley, Julian Estelle, Lee Troy Ware, Bobby Martin, Thomas Glen Walters, Jeff Myers, Robert Withers, and Rob Greene.

Memorials may be made to the Martinville Baptist Church, c/o Barry Savage, 129 Wright Street, Hamburg, AR 71646. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m., Wednesday at the funeral home.
