Obituary for Carl Eugene Blubaugh CARL EUGENE BLUBAUGH (Gene), age 71 of Delta, PA, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 24, 2018 in his home. Married to his beloved wife, Christine (Shimkus) Blubaugh on June 24, 1971 in Pen Mar, MD, they had shared 47 years together. Born March 10, 1947 in Waynesboro, PA, he was a son of the late Hattie Naomi (Blubaugh) Sanders and a 1965 graduate of Waynesboro High School.

After graduation, Carl served in the United States Army for 24 years, first as a tactical telecommunications center operator, then as a track wheel mechanic followed by an instructor at the Ordnance Center and School at Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD. Upon retirement in 1991, he purchased a big rig and began long distance trucking traveling across the country with his sidekick, a little dog named Nikki. He had a passion for music playing guitar in a band while stationed in Germany.

To tune his guitar, he always played Amanda. “We all learned to tune him out when he played that song! ” commented his family.

He loved his old cars and enjoyed riding his motorcycle through the countryside with his wife (hanging on for dear life. ) Another favorite pastime was hunting for deer with his brothers and uncles and later with his son, Justin. In addition to his wife, Carl is survived by three children: Marcy Doss (Kevin) of Fredericksburg, VA; Jennifer (Nick) Gorham of Grand Forks AFB, ND and Justin (Teresa) Blubaugh of Forest Hill, MD Four brothers: Robin Sanders; Randy Sanders; Roger Sanders all of Waynesboro, PA and Rex Sanders of Hegins, PA.

He was also blessed with five grandchildren: Caitlin Doss and Timothy Doss both of Fredericksburg, VA; Jaiden Gorham and Rylee Gorham both of Grand Forks AFB, ND; and Willie Blubaugh of Forest Hill, MD as well as three great-grandchildren: Madelynn Mills; Tinsley Doss and Levi Doss all of Fredericksburg, VA He was preceded in death by his grandparents Irwin and Almeda Blubaugh who helped to shape the man he was and his mother, Hattie Naomi (Blubaugh) Sanders. A viewing will be held on Wednesday, November 28, 2018 from 7-9 p.m. at Harkins Funeral Home, 600 Main Street, Delta 17314 where the funeral will be held on Thursday, November 29, 2018 at 10 a.m. Military interment will be held in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Indiantown Gap Road, Annville, PA 17033 on Thursday at 2 p.m. Please gather at the graveside by 1:45 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to your local humane society or the Wounded Warrior Project, support. woundedwarriorproject.org/Donate or call 855.
