Leetonia – Carl R. Garwood, 85, of Leetonia, died, October 28, 2018 at Sunrise Assisted Living of Poland. He was born April 8, 1933 in Middleton, son of the late Raymond and Irma Coleman Garwood. Carl’s legacy revolved around his love for family, farming and his community.

He graduated from Fairfield high school in 1951, worked as a Maintenance Mechanic with Sun Oil Company for forty and a half years and was a life time farmer. Carl served as a Fairfield Township Trustee for sixteen and a half years and on the Crestview Local School Board for sixteen years. He was a recipient of the Crestview Distinguished Hall of Fame Award.

Carl was a Columbiana County 4-H advisor and served on the 4-H Steer Committee. He is survived by his wife, the former Joann Beth Burbick, whom he married, March 28, 1952; five daughters, Joan (Craig) Bell of Chicago, IL Jean (Kevin) Berger of New Waterford, Lori (John) Bankert of Zionsville, IN, Carla Wade of Ashville, NC and Kellee (Greg) Fries of Reading, PA; four sons, Robert (Maggie) Garwood of Canfield, James (Patricia) Garwood of Leetonia, John (Linda) Garwood of Leetonia and Luke Garwood of Glen Bernie, MD; a sister, Gayle Walters of Leetonia; twenty seven grandchildren and twenty seven great grandchildren. Carl was preceded in death by a son, Thomas Garwood, a sister, Frieda Pagliarulo and a grandson Zachary Garwood.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 30, 2018 and from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 31, 2018 at Warrick-Kummer-Rettig Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 31, 2018 at Warrick-Kummer-Rettig Funeral Home, Columbiana, with Ryan Ervin officiating. Burial will follow in Columbiana Cemetery.
