Carleen’s Obituary Carleen Yvonne Liggett, 63 of Belle Fourche died March 25, 2019 at the Spearfish Regional Hospital. She was born October 4, 1955 in Mitchell, South Dakota to Elmer and Peggy Penning. Carleen graduated from Belle Fourche High School in 1973 and attended College of Fashion Design in Billings, MT.

Carleen married Bruce Liggett on February 23, 1979 and to this marriage 4 daughters were born. Carleen enjoyed sewing, quilting and mending alterations for others. She was a breast cancer survivor and participated in many Relay for Life events in the Tri-State area.

She was very strong in her Catholic Faith. Carleen loved being with her family and always enjoyed the opportunity to help others. She had a big heart and amazing positive outlook always.

Carleen touched the lives of everyone she met. She is survived by her mother, Peggy Penning of Belle Fourche; children, Amanda Liggett, Heather Estrada, Dee Liggett all of Belle Fourche and Chrissy Liggett of Lead, SD; grandchildren, Cameron, Ocean, Wynter, London, Willow, Kaylin, Rylin, Johnny, Jimmy, Josh, Rayechael, Jocelynn, Macey, Sawyer and Madilynn; sisters, Cathy (Clark) Sowers of Belle Fourche and Peggy Sue (Dave) Mutchler of Keystone, SD; brothers, Brett Penning of Hulett,WY, Mike (Sheri) Penning of Belle Fourche, Tom (Mary) Penning of Hulett, Chris (Sharon) Penning of Hulett, Shawn (Jennifer) Penning of Saginaw, MI and Les (Deb) Penning of Baker City, OR; sister-in-law, ReNette Penning of Hulett and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Elmer Penning; brother, Joseph Penning and nephew, Michael Sowers.

Visitation will be from 6:00 to 7:00 pm Thursday, March 28 with a Rosary at 7:00 pm at St. Paul Catholic Church in Belle Fourche. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 am Friday, March 29 at the church with Father John Paul Trask officiating. Interment will follow at Pine Slope Cemetery in Belle Fourche.
