Obituary for Carlton Marion “Carl” Brown Print Carlton M. “Carl” Brown, 82, of Palatka, passed from this life on Saturday, February 23, 2019 at Putnam Community Medical Center. Born in Melbourne, Florida to Joe Brown and Louise Stacey Brown, he had lived most all his life in Putnam County. Carl was a 1955 graduate of Palatka High School and served in the U.S. Army Reserves.

He worked as a cost accountant with Georgia Pacific Paper Mill, retiring after 42 years of service. In 1959, Carl invented the ABC work shift that is still being used today. Dedicated to serving his Master, Carl was the youngest man to be ordained as a deacon at Peniel Baptist Church.

He later served as a deacon at the First Baptist Church in Palatka and at Trinity Baptist Church of which he was a founding member. In later years, he was a member of Christ Independent Methodist Church. Carl also was a member of Pineland Lodge #86 F&AM.

A lover of cats, Carl owned and operated Zelcar Catery where he bred and sold Siamese Cats. In his leisure time, Carl loved raising chickens and peacocks as well as planting flowers. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Zella Mae Rich Brown, a daughter, Tammie Brown Bowles, a grandson, Kenny Perez and his siblings, Joe Vernon Brown, Donna Brown Dice, Bonnie Brown Warf and Dorothy Brown Price.

Carl is survived by his wife of 22 years, Glenda Barber Brown of Palatka, a daughter, Linda Keller (Tom) of Palatka, his step-children, Libby Morris Padgett (Jim) of Crescent City and Mike Morris (Kim) of Hollister, a son-in-law, Jim Bowles of Jacksonville, and numerous step-grand and great-grandchildren. Services celebrating Carl’s life will be at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, February 27, 2019 at Johnson-Overturf Funeral Home in Palatka with Pastor Michael Hudson officiating and Judge Elizabeth Morris delivering the eulogy. Interment will follow at Oak Hill West Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 9:00 A.M. until the time of services at 10:00 A.M. Flowers are gratefully accepted or memorial donations may be sent in Carl’s memory to the Putnam First Cancer Fund, 600 Zeagler Dr., Palatka, FL 32177.
